INDIGENOUS EUROPEAN GRAPES WINE TASTING & DINNER
Thursday 6th March, 7pm
25 years ago, few of us were really that familiar with Picpoul (de Pinet), Albariño (Rías Baixas) or even the Viognier grape; now they are amongst the most popular consumer styles. It is estimated that there are potentially over 5,000 different varieties in the world which technically can make table wine. The Grape & Wine Research Development Corporation records a database of 1,271 being actively used in creating and blending different styles of wine in the world at present. Of these, the bastions in Europe of indigenous varieties are Greece, Italy, and Portugal.
Nick Adams, Master of Wine, will introduce and guide us through an authentic selection of these amazing varieties and wines – with Sparkling, White, Rosé, Red, and Sweet wine all showcased. This is a great chance to broaden your tasting palate and maybe discover tomorrow’s favourites – and guaranteed no Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, or Shiraz in sight!
King prawn gambas with chilli and garlic, served with toasted sourdough
Braised beef goulash with pomme puree, roasted root vegetables and tenderstem broccoli
Limoncello tiramisu with candied orange and orange tuille
